Traffic Stop Leads to Several Charges

A routine traffic stop in the area of U.S. 165 and LA 127 at Olla lead to the arrest of a Caldwell Parish man on multiple narcotic charges, according to LaSalle Sheriff Scott Franklin.
In the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 9th, a LPSO deputy sheriff conducted the traffic stop at Olla.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Logan Dortch, 21, of Grayson.
Dortch informed the deputy that he was taking the vehicle home for a friend who had been arrested in Caldwell Parish. Caldwell authorities were contacted and they informed the deputy that Dortch was released with the vehicle well over an hour earlier after a thorough search.
Consent to search was given, and during the search, the LPSO deputy located a blue bottle containing aprazolam and diazepam pills along with suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Dortch reportedly admitted the items belonged to him and he was transported to the LaSalle Parish Jail in Jena for booking.
Dortch was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of CDS II – methamphetamine, possession of CDS IV – alprazolam, possession of CDS IV – diazepam, and headlamp being out.


Several Arrested on Illegal Drug Charges

During the past week, several individuals were arrested and faces numerous illegal narcotic charges in LaSalle Parish according to Sheriff Scott Franklin.

On the morning of Thursday, June 8th, LPSO detectives went to a residence on Billings St. in Trout to execute a search warrant on the home of James and Anna Carter.

Detectives entered the residence and located both homeowners, a female identified to be Nicole Thornton, and five minor children.

Detectives began searching, and found suspected methamphetamine along with drug paraphernalia throughout the home.  All three individuals were arrested and transported to the LaSalle Parish Jail in Jena to be booked.

James Carter, 47, of Trout, was charged with possession of CDS II methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of CDS in the presence of a minor.

Anna Carter, 40, of Trout, was charged with possession of CDS II methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of CDS in the presence of a minor.

Nicole Thornton, 29, of Trout, was charged with possession of CDS II methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of CDS in the presence of a minor.

More Drug Charges

In the early morning hours of Sunday, June 11th, a LPSO deputy observed vehicles parked at an abandoned home off of LA 127 south of Jena.  The deputy walked up to the vehicle and could smell the odor of marijuana.

A white female identified to be LaRhonda Elliot exited the passenger side of the vehicle, and it was found that she was wanted by the Jena Police Department along with Iberia Parish.

A white male identified to be James Frazier was seated in the driver’s seat and a white male identified to be George Broussard exited the residence.

It was found that Broussard was wanted from Iberia Parish as well.  A LPSO K-9 deputy utilized his K-9 partner for a search of the vehicle, and gave a positive alert.

A hand search was conducted, and deputies located suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and adderall.  Both Frazier and Elliott refused ownership of the suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

LaRhonda Elliott, 37, of Jeanerette, was booked on the charges of possession of CDS II methamphetamine, possession of CDS II adderall, possession of drug paraphernalia, and two outstanding warrants.

James Frazier, 25, of Jena, was booked for possession of CDS II methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

George Broussard, 58, of New Iberia, was booked as a fugitive of Iberia Parish.

Woman Arrested on Drug Charges

While on duty last Thursday, July 6, 2017, LPSO detectives observed a red Nissan Maxima occupied by a white female stopped in a sandy bottom of the Gourley Road south of Jena.

She was identified to be Erica Breland Walker and told Detectives that she stopped to apply makeup to her face.

Walker informed that her car was not insured and could not provide a vehicle registration.  Consent was given to search the car, and detectives located suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in Walker’s purse.

Erica Breland Walker, age 32, of Sicily Island, was transported to the LaSalle Parish Jail in Jena and booked on the charges of possession of CDS II – methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Dumpster Diving Leads to Charges

Scavenging in a dumpster last Wednesday led to the arrest of two women on narcotic charges, according to LaSalle Parish Sheriff Scott Franklin.

On the afternoon of June 28, 2017, at LPSO deputy sheriff noticed a female scavenging in the dumpsters on LA 459 and observed her remove an item from the dumpster.

The deputy identified the woman to be Tiffany Deville, 34, of Trout, and located another female at the site identified as Della Henry, 52, of Trout.

A LPSO K-9 deputy was contacted to come to the scene to utilize his K-9 partner for an exterior search of the vehicle the two women were in and the K-9 gave a positive alert and the deputies began searching the inside of the truck.

Inside a purse belonging to Della Henry, deputies found clonazepam, a CDS IV narcotic. Deputies searched a bag belonging to Tiffany Deville and found a small piece of tin foil containing suspected methamphetamine, a CDS II narcotic.

Deville and Henry were both transported to the LaSalle Parish Jail in Jena to be booked.

Deville was charged with possession of CDS II – methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and scavenging.

Henry was charged with possession of CDS IV – clonazepam, possession of drug paraphernalia, and open container.

Serving Federal Warrant Leads to Narcotic Charges

On Friday, July 21, US Marshal task force agents went to a residence south of Olla to serve a federal arrest warrant.  Once inside the home, agents discovered marijuana plants growing in the living room along with other drug paraphernalia.

LPSO detectives responded and spoke with two individuals in the home, identified as Hughy Paul Williams and Alicia Noble.

Williams informed that the marijuana plants belonged to him, and that they were about a month old. Detectives continued searching, locating drug paraphernalia and suspected methamphetamine in items belonging to Alicia Noble.

More marijuana plants were discovered growing behind the home in a wooded area. Both Williams and Noble were arrested and transported to the LaSalle Parish Jail in Jena.

Hughy Paul Williams, age 44, of Olla, was booked on the charges of manufacture of CDS I marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Alicia Noble, age 39, of Alexandria, was booked on the charges of possession of CDS II methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jena Man Faces Multiple Charges

A routine traffic stop in the Good Pine area last Saturday resulted in the arrest of a 21-year-old Jena man on multiple charges, according to LaSalle Sheriff Scott Franklin.

Shortly after midnight on Saturday, a LaSalle Parish deputy sheriff stopped a vehicle traveling east on U.S. 84 in Good Pine for a traffic violation.

Deputies received consent to search the vehicle and the passenger, identified as Christopher Morley Tiner, 21, of Jena, was asked to step out.

When Tiner stepped out, deputies observed suspected methamphetamine in the passenger seat and floorboard. Tiner became upset and tried to sweep the evidence off the seat.

Tiner was transported to the LaSalle Parish Jail in Jena for booking, and in the jail, deputies located part of a clear bag in Tiner’s mouth.

He was booked into jail on the charges of possession of CDS II – methamphetamine, obstruction of justice, introduction of contraband, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Murder Trials for Tullos Men Reset

Murder trials for two Tullos men charged following a double homicide in that town in April 2016 has been reset for Monday, September 25, according to LaSalle District Attorney J. Reed Walters.
Both trials had been scheduled for August, but was reset because the uncertainty of a witness from South Louisiana being able to make it for trial in late August, Walters said.
Joshua D. Sant, 27, and Austin W. Dyess, 20, are facing murder charges in the double homicide of Demond Rafeal Garner, 26, and Chelsey Nicole Copling, 19, both of Hawkins, Texas.
A LaSalle Grand Jury indicted Sant on three charges in late June last year. He was indicted for the second-degree murder of Copling, and conspiracy to commit second-degree murder of Copling. Sant was also indicted with having violated the Louisiana Hate Crimes statute in a third count of the indictment.
The Grand Jury indicted Dyess with second-degree murder of Garner, and with conspiracy to commit second-degree murder of Gardner.
Officers with the LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Sant and Dyess on April 27, 2016 in connection with the deaths of Copling and Garner, after conducting an intensive investigation.
The bodies of the two victims were found after they were reported missing in Tullos on Monday, April 25. Several agencies were involved in the search for the pair and on Wednesday, April 27, the victims were found in a wooded area just south of Tullos.
In less than two hours after the bodies were discovered, Sant and Dyess were in the custody of LPSO as persons of interest in the crime.
By Friday, enough evidence had been uncovered to officially charge the pair in connection with the deaths. In June, Walters convened the Grand Jury, which returned the indictments against Sant and Dyess.

 

Monroe Man Facing Illegal Narcotic Charges in LaSalle

A 30-year-old Monroe man was arrested last Wednesday and is facing illegal narcotic charges in LaSalle Parish, according to Sheriff Scott Franklin.

On the night of Wednesday, October 4, a LaSalle Parish K-9 deputy observed a traffic violation on a grey Toyota Camry traveling south on US Hwy 165 south of Olla.  The deputy activated his emergency lights, but the vehicle continued traveling south and refused to stop.

The deputy activated his siren and the vehicle continued driving, finally stopping in the parking lot of Hardtner Medical Center,  near the Urania intersection.

The vehicle had traveled about a mile before it pulled over.  LPSO deputies identified the driver as Quentin Long and they noticed he was wearing only one shoe.  Long told deputies he took his shoe off because his toe was itching.

The K-9 deputy utilized his K-9 partner for a search of the vehicle that yielded a positive alert on the back passenger door and front driver’s seat.  Deputies did a hand search of the vehicle and located a large bag with 12 individual wrapped bags containing suspected cocaine that was found in the back seat.

Long was asked to remove his shoe on his right foot and deputies observed a large bulge in his sock.  Inside the sock deputies located a small bag containing suspected marijuana.

Quentin Long, 30, of Monroe, was transported to the LaSalle Parish Jail in Jena and booked on the charges of possession of CDS II  – cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of CDS I – marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, no driver’s license, improper lane usage, and flight from an officer.


Jena Man Face Charges in Two Different Parishes

A 37-year-old Jena man is facing charges in two adjoining parishes – LaSalle and Rapides – following an investigation by detectives in each of the parishes, according to LaSalle Sheriff Scott Franklin.

On December 28, 2017, Rapides Parish deputies took a report of fraudulent use of an access card. Complainant stated that once the card was discovered missing, contact was made with the bank and several fraudulent transactions were discovered.  The case was turned over to Sheriff’s detectives for further investigation.

During their investigation it was discovered LaSalle Parish Detectives were also working on the same case.  LaSalle Detectives stated that the suspect had made several fraudulent charges in their jurisdiction as well.

Rapides and LaSalle detectives began a joint investigation and were able to identify the suspect as Randall Richard Holmes, 37, of 104 Pecan Grove Road, Jena.

Rapides detectives obtained arrest warrants on Holmes.  Holmes was taken into custody by detectives in LaSalle Parish on their charges and booked into LaSalle Parish Detention Center.

On January 12th, 2018, once Holmes was released from LaSalle Detention Center, he was then transported to Rapides Parish Detention Center where he was booked in for the fraudulent charges made in Rapides Parish, which included 5 counts unauthorized use of access card.

Holmes was later released on $2,500 bond.

Man facing charges in LaSalle found in Texas

A 33-year-old Jena man wanted by our department for almost a year was apprehended in Sweetwater, Texas last week and returned to LaSalle Parish to face illegal narcotic charges, according to LaSalle Sheriff Scott Franklin.

In August of 2017, LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives obtained a warrant for Nicholas Miller’s arrest on illegal narcotic charges.

Detectives were unable to locate Miller in the Jena area at the time and his arrest warrant and information was entered into the NCIC database as a fugitive.

A couple of weeks ago, LaSalle authorities were notified that Miller had been arrested in Sweetwater, about 181 miles west of Ft. Worth, Texas.

LPSO deputies went to Sweetwater and transported Miller back to LaSalle Parish.

On Tuesday, June 19, he was booked into the LaSalle Parish Jail in Jena on charges of distribution of CDS I – marijuana, 3 counts. Bond was set at $90,000 and at press time this week Miller remained in jail.

“It took a little time, but our detectives finally got their man,” Sheriff Franklin stated referring to Miller finally being caught up with and arrested.

“We take all illegal narcotic charges very seriously and do what we can to apprehend those who would peddle narcotics to our citizens,” the Sheriff noted.

“I commend our narcotic detectives for all their hard work on getting rid of illegal drugs in our parish, and for never giving up on finding those who commit these crimes,” Franklin stated.

“One of the goals of our department is to keep our communities free from these drugs that can change lives forever,” he said.

Man charged with 2nd-degree murder

A 30-year-old Summerville man was charged last week with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death over the previous weekend of a 49-year-old Summerville man, according to LaSalle Sheriff Scott Franklin.
James R. Rosier, 30, of Summerville was charged with second-degree murder of Sherwood G. Breithaupt, 49, of 163 Richard Road in Summerville community.
At about 4:45 a.m. Sunday morning, August 5, 2018, the LPSO was notified of a possible homicide at 163 Richard Road, Olla, LA (in the Summerville area).
Detectives and deputies from the LPSO responded to the address and after making entry, officers located a white male identified as 49-year-old Sherwood G. Breithaupt deceased in the residence.
Approximately an hour and a half later, a person of interest was placed in custody. Breithaupt’s body was sent to Lafayette for an autopsy.
Sheriff Franklin confirmed that the autopsy revealed that Breithaupt died from gunshot wounds and after gathering sufficient evidence, Rosier was charged with his murder.
Judge J. Christopher Peters of the 28th Judicial District Court set bond on Rosier last Thursday in the amount of $761,000.

Pair face charges after home disturbance report

A home disturbance call from the Tidwell Landing area led to the apprehension and arrest of two individuals on various charges Sunday night, according to LaSalle Sheriff Scott Franklin.

LaSalle Parish deputies were dispatched to a residence on Tidwell Landing Road Sunday night, Aug. 19, in reference to a man at the home causing a disturbance.

While enroute to the home, deputies were informed that the man and his girlfriend had left the home in a grey Honda Accord, headed toward Jena.

Deputies observed the grey Honda Accord traveling north on Hwy 127, and initiated a traffic stop on Walkerville Road near Hwy 127.

Contact was made with the driver, identified as Amanda Elliott, age 33, of Jena. She was questioned about the disturbance at the home.  Elliott advised deputies that her boyfriend, Chad Wells, age 40, of Jena, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was upset due to people coming to their home messing with stuff.

While deputies were speaking with Elliott, Wells attempted to climb from the passenger seat of the vehicle out of the driver’s side window.  Wells was instructed to remain in the vehicle until he was told to get out.

Deputies did a hand search of the vehicle and located a baggie containing suspected methamphetamine.  Elliott was advised of her rights, and she admitted that the baggie of methamphetamine belonged to her.

Amanda Elliott was transported to the LaSalle Parish Jail in Jena and booked on charges of possession of CDS II – methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Chad Wells was transported to the LPSO Jail to be held on a parole violation.

Kelly man faces numerous narcotic and other charges

A 20-year-old Kelly man is facing numerous narcotic and other charges in LaSalle Parish following a routine traffic stop in the parish, according to LaSalle Sheriff Scott Franklin.
On the night of Monday, January 14 a LPSO K-9 deputy was traveling on Hwy 84 and observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation. The deputy stopped the vehicle on Hwy 84 and Truck St. in Jena and made contact with the driver, identified as Aaron Moses, age 20, of Kelly.
A juvenile female was observed in the passenger seat with a rifle beside her leg. When asked if they had any more weapons, Moses informed the deputy of having a pistol under the driver seat. While the deputy was retrieving the weapons from the vehicle, he smelled the odor of raw marijuana emitting from the vehicle. Moses advised the deputy of possible marijuana shavings in the floor board.
The deputy utilized his K-9 partner “Titan” and performed an exterior search of the vehicle to which “Titan” did alert on the passenger door area. Prior to the deputy searching the vehicle, Moses admitted to having marijuana in a backpack that was on the passenger floorboard.
The deputy opened the backpack and located a Tupperware bowl that contained a large Ziploc bag containing suspected marijuana. Also located in the back pack was liquid THC, a small blue baggie containing four rectangle pills, a small green baggie containing 3 round blue pills, and six round pinkish/orange pills with a Mickey Mouse cartoon on them.
Moses admitted that the suspected marijuana and liquid THC belonged to him. When asked about the pills, Moses advised that the ones in the green baggie were ecstasy and the blue baggie contained Xanax.
Moses was transported to the LaSalle Parish Jail and booked on the charges of possession of CDS I ecstasy, possession of CDS III Xanax, 3 counts of possession of CDS in the presence of a minor, 2 counts of illegal carrying of weapons with CDS.

Olla man facing narcotic charges

A routine traffic stop in the Belah community last Thursday resulted in an Olla man being arrested and charged with multiple narcotic charges, according to Sheriff Scott Franklin.
On the night of Thursday, March 21, a LPSO K-9 deputy stopped a vehicle on Hwy 773 in the Belah community due to the vehicle crossing the double yellow line multiple times.
The deputy spoke to the driver, identified as Stuart Mayo, age 52, of Olla. The deputy observed Mayo placing his hands in his front pants pocket, and he was asked to remove them.
The deputy asked Mayo if he had any weapons or anything illegal on him, and Mayo informed of having a pocket knife and marijuana. Mayo was then handcuffed and the deputy began searching him.
During the search the K-9 deputy located a baggie containing suspected marijuana along with a baggie containing suspected methamphetamine.
Mayo was transported to the LaSalle Parish Jail and booked on the charges of possession of CDS II – methamphetamine, possession of CDS I – marijuana, and improper lane usage.

Trio arrested last Thursday; Charged with illegal narcotics

A check on two individuals near Jena last Thursday by probation and parole agents along with LaSalle detectives, led to three of the people being arrested and charged with possession of illegal narcotics, according to LaSalle Sheriff Scott Franklin.
On the morning of Thursday, May 9, 2019, LPSO detectives accompanied Louisiana Probation and Parole agents to a residence off of Blade Loop near Jena.
Two of the individuals inside the home were on probation. They were identified as Deborah Carraway, 49, of Colfax, and John Wright, 52, of Jena. The homeowner was also present and was identified as Richard Breithaupt, 51, of Jena.
Breithaupt indicated that a water bong was present in the home, and John Wright was asked about having any weapons or narcotics to which he responded that he had methamphetamine.
A continued search of a bedroom revealed a bag containing suspected methamphetamine inside a purse belonging to Carraway, along with a suspected valium on a bedside table.
Before ending the search, detectives observed an object on top of a cabinet in the kitchen and it was determined to be a glass smoking device containing suspected methamphetamine.
All three were arrested and transported to the LaSalle Parish Jail for booking.
Deborah Carraway was booked on the charges of possession of CDS II methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of CDS IV valium, possession of drug paraphernalia, and probation violation.
John Wright was booked on the charges of possession of CDS II methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and probation violation.
Richard Breithaupt was booked on charges of possession of CDS II methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.


LPSO books several more on illegal narcotic charges

Investigations and surveillance by detectives with the LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office resulted in several arrests on illegal narcotic charges during the past week, according to LaSalle Sheriff Scott Franklin.
On Monday, July 15th, LPSO detectives learned of a narcotic transaction set to take place at the Jena City Park.
Detectives set up surveillance, and after its completion made a traffic stop on a white Chevrolet Tahoe involved in the distribution. The stop was made on US Hwy 84 at Third St. resulting in the arrest of Kristen Sharbono, age 29, of Jena, after evidence was obtained of Sharbono selling prescription drugs.
Subsequently, Sharbono was transported to the LaSalle Parish Jail and booked on the charges of distribution of CDS III – suboxone and distribution of a legend drug.
Working with LP&P
On Tuesday, July 16th, LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives accompanied Louisiana Probation and Parole as they visited several homes throughout the parish of individuals under supervision.
These visits resulted in the arrests of five people on numerous felony drug charges and one other for an outstanding warrant.
Caravious Wallace, age 21, of Jena, charged with manufacture of CDS I – marijuana.
Charles Gunn, age 35, of Jena, possession of CDS II – methamphetamine, possession of CDS I – marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Raymond Thomas, age 48, of Jena, possession of CDS II – methamphetamine, possession of CDS I – marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Christopher Morris, age 39, of Olla, possession of CDS II – methamphetamine, possession of CDS IV – alprazolam, and warrant for felony theft.
Cherridy Seamans, age 42, of Tullos, possession of CDS IV – alprazolam, possession of CDS IV – clonazepam, and possession of CDS I – marijuana.
Melinda Rainey, age 43, of Olla, warrant for misdemeanor theft.
Sheriff Franklin commended the detectives involved in these narcotic arrests noting that the LPSO continue its crack-down on anyone who would attempt to sell illegal narcotics in the parish.
“Our detectives do a great job in keeping our communities free of illegal drugs,” Franklin said. “And our citizens are faithful to helping us by being our eyes and ears out there, and reporting any suspicious activities.”
